The German manufacturer of motorcycles, BMW Motorrad, has unveiled the Vision K18 as a unique concept bike that centers around the inline-six cylinder engine that is known for its silky smoothness. This concept bike will make its public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy’s Lake Como.

Based on the power plant that consists of a 1,800cc inline six-cylinder engine, BMW states that the engine defines the rest of the motorcycle. Body, proportions, posture, intakes, exhausts, and lighting have been carefully created to make the viewer aware of the six-cylinder configuration. The BMW designers have incorporated six intakes, six tailpipes, and six LED headlights to emphasize the structure of the inline-six engine. Air enters the engine through six tubes in the front intake, while the back portion, which features six exhaust pipes, is wider and surrounded with carbon fiber.

BMW’s Vision K18 concept borrows aerodynamics from fast aircraft in order to create a long and low profile motorcycle. Its silhouette has taken influence from airplanes like Concorde, in that it is shaped ready to accelerate. There are some aluminum panels which are hand-finished and include the long side panel, exceeding two meters in length. Body elements consist of smooth areas and mechanical parts, cut-outs, and vents.

Other features include hydraulic suspension, active cooling for the headlight, forged carbon pieces, and special finishes. Flame-sprayed parts provide a gleaming metal effect based on the old-school Formula 1 exhaust headers. No, they will never be put into production, but we adore where BMW is heading with its vision of future performance touring bikes.
