Land Cruiser FJ India Launch: Expected Price, Features, and Engine Details

A new entry-level Toyota off-road vehicle could make its way into the Indian market in the next couple of years with design cues inspired by one of the most recognized models in the four-wheel-drive segment. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, unveiled at Japan Mobility Show 2025, sports a box-shaped exterior and circular headlight clusters reminiscent of the legendary FJ40.

With its 4.5-meter-long body and wheelbase measuring 2,580 mm, the new SUV is noticeably shorter than the Fortuner, which it will compete against as a smaller Toyota product. The relatively small size makes the FJ easier to operate within an urban setting but also gives it enhanced maneuverability in tight trail conditions where off-road capability is necessary.

The ladder-frame IMV chassis provides the structural base for the FJ – just like with the Fortuner and Hilux sold worldwide. Being built on a ladder-frame ensures all the benefits of a traditional SUV, including superior ruggedness, which is important for maintaining the Land Cruiser heritage while placing the FJ into a more affordable segment. Part-time 4WD should come standard.

The proposed power plant for the Land Cruiser FJ could be a petrol engine that comes with a displacement of 2.7L, naturally aspirated, which produces 163 PS and 246 Nm and has a six-speed automatic transmission. Other engines may include a diesel one, which may be considered according to the demands of the region, particularly because in India a diesel engine would be more useful owing to its importance in the market there.

The design of the Land Cruiser FJ incorporates some upright surfaces and wheel arch cladding along with a robust body and purposeful looks, making it clear that it is an off-road vehicle. The interior would focus on practicality but also include some modern features such as a 12.5-inch touchscreen screen, a digital instrument cluster and climate control, among others.

There has been no official announcement regarding India from Toyota till now. However, the brand’s recent concentration on making adventure-oriented vehicles such as the Fortuner, Hilux, and Land Cruisers gives us hope that the product will hit the market in India soon. It will be priced lower than the Fortuner.
