The compact, light, and nimble supermotard has been developed with the idea of making everyday riding more exciting. Given that it weighs about 154kg, it would definitely be fun to ride it competitively or on a regular basis. The DR-Z4SM has a single-cylinder engine that is 398cc and makes around 38bhp. This relatively low power is complemented by responsive throttle and good acceleration in the lower ranges. It is this kind of traditional feel that many riders love.

Agility was the main idea behind the development of the DR-Z4SM, hence its high and central riding position, wide handlebar, and small bodywork are expected to give the rider great control over the machine. Suspension on the bike is provided by adjustable Kayaba suspension, including the front inverted fork, which allows for 260mm of travel, as well as the rear suspension, which allows for 277mm of travel. This combination of long travel suspensions would allow easy handling of bumpy roads and abrupt changes of directions.
