BMW F 450 GS Variants Explained – Best Value Pick Revealed

The highly anticipated BMW F 450 GS hit the Indian market a couple of days ago. It is available in three variants – Basic, Exclusive, and GS Trophy, with prices starting from Rs. 4.70 lakh. However, even after taking into account all its features and specifications, the baby GS ends up being slightly costly. If you are planning to buy this bike, here is one variant that makes more sense.

Before we move forward, let us see what each variant brings to the table. The Basic variant comes well-equipped with features like a 6.5-inch TFT display, ABS, traction control, heated grips, and more. It is available only in the Cosmic Black shade.

The mid-level Exclusive variant gets a bash plate, knuckle guards, and a tall windshield. It also comes with Riding Modes Pro and Shift Assistant Pro as standard features.

The GS Trophy model comes with adjustable suspension, different body paint, aluminum bash plate, and Easy Ride Clutch, which is commonly known as ERC. However, considering that it retails at a hefty Rs. 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom price), or even above Rs. 6.5 lakh on-road price, is it worth the high price tag?

In conclusion, the best variant for its price range is the mid-level model called Exclusive. This model has all the electronics one would require and has a manual clutch with reasonable underbody protection. While it misses the adjustable suspension, it can always be installed by the dealer once BMW offers it as an optional extra component for purchase. The aluminum bash plate can also be obtained from the BMW dealership, but if one doesn’t wish to go for the genuine product, aftermarket components will soon be available in the future.

Well, one will have to settle for the only colour option it currently offers which is black. Maybe a wrap for the bodywork could suffice for the people wanting something colorful on their bike. BMW could do well to introduce other colours for this model in their next set of updates.

But as it is, even if money is not an issue, the F 450 GS Trophy is ideal for someone wanting to have the ERC. True, it costs more than the Exclusive model, but having the ERC makes it worthy to pay extra. Also consider the colour of the bike, which is just plain cool. What one needs to remember is that one must learn to adjust one’s riding style because of the ERC system, and try to avoid clutch slip.

The Base F 450 GS is better suited for people on tight budgets who won’t find it worth splurging an extra Rs. 20,000 on the Exclusive variant. Or else, if one doesn’t care about the Pro ride modes and Quick Shifter, the Base model is a better platform on which one could build a bike using accessories.
