It looks like Mahindra is gearing up to go global with their electric vehicles. Besides their popular ICE cars like the Scorpio, XUV 700, and XUV 3XO, they plan to introduce the XEV 9e. Guess what? A test version of this coupe-SUV was spotted in Melbourne.

Reports suggest that Mahindra intends to launch EV sales in Australia first before diving into other markets. For this initiative, they might kick things off with the XEV 9e. Equipped with either a 228bhp/380Nm + 59kWh or a snazzy 282bhp/380Nm + 79kWh setup, the SUV is rear-wheel driven. Positioned to undercut the competition from China, this could give buyers a good deal.

The XEV 9e isn’t lacking in tech or luxury features. It boasts a tri-cluster display, 360° cameras, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, to name a few. Still, it faces strong competition from Chinese brands. Priced at around AUD 50,000-55,000 for the 59kWh model and AUD 65,000-70,000 for the 79kWh one, its rivals are the MG S6, Zeekr 7X, Tesla Model Y, and the BYD Sealion 7. Even competing in the pricey AWD Sealion 7 and Zeekr 7X segments, the XEV 9e offers better range at 656km compared to the Zeekr 7X’s 602km.
