Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV Compared on Range, Features, and Value

Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV Compared

Tiago EV has started hitting the market with an ex-showroom base price tag of Rs. 6.99 lakh, which once again puts them into a position to challenge MG Motor India’s cheapest electric car. This is because their only competitor is the MG Comet in its Executive version, costing Rs. 7.62 lakh, while in terms of functionality and performance, there’s no comparison between the two.

In theory, the Tiago EV seems like an improvement. Starting with the basic model, it features a 19.2kWh battery pack with a 61hp/110Nm electric motor. The range offered by Tata is 226km per charge. In comparison, the Comet EV uses a 17.3kWh battery pack with an output of 42hp/110Nm but with a slightly higher range of 230km.

Obviously, the Tiago provides more power, however, more importantly, it represents a regular-sized hatchback that accommodates up to five passengers, which is not possible in the Comet, which is still a city car with only four seats. Talking about features, the Tiago EV is fitted with six airbags, traction control, regenerative braking system, drive modes selection, digital instruments, TPMS, and AC.

Nonetheless, it is the Comet that comes with more standard features. For instance, the lowest trim of the Executive range has power windows, electronically controlled ORVM, an elementary audio unit having Bluetooth and two speakers, along with control options on the steering wheel. Not a single one of these can be found in the entry-level Tiago EV. The upright seating arrangement and compact build of the Comet make it easy to navigate around busy towns.

Nonetheless, the diminutive size of the Comet poses both strengths and weaknesses. It helps with getting out of jams on the roads but does not have the ability to operate efficiently on highways. Furthermore, the ride quality is choppy over bumps due to the small wheelbase, while handling is not great compared to other hatchbacks. In general, the Comet serves better as a spare car than a primary car.

All things considered, the Tiago EV remains the superior option in this scenario. It is a bigger car that can be purchased at a lower price point. On the contrary, there is one thing that you should keep in mind regarding Tata’s electric cars. There have been several cases in which customers faced problems like software issues and battery efficiency problems with Nexon EV and Curvv EV.
