Chery Jaecoo J5 EV Spied Testing Again Ahead of India Launch

The Chery Jaecoo J5 EV has been seen testing on the roads of India once again, providing us with a clearer idea of what could be one of the upcoming electric SUV launches in the country in the near future. The latest images of the Chery Jaecoo J5 EV, as seen on the roads of the country, indicate that the company is indeed testing the all-electric version of the Jaecoo J5, and this could be one of the launches that the company has in the near future, given the speculated partnership with JSW that the company is likely to have.

What makes the Chery Jaecoo J5 EV test mule interesting is the fact that this is the electric version of the vehicle, as opposed to the petrol version that has the fuel lid on the left rear quarter panel, as indicated by the presence of the charging port on the right front quarter panel of the vehicle.

According to the report by CarWale, the Jaecoo J5 EV could be the second JSW-backed model, after the Jetour T2, to be launched in the country.

In terms of styling, Jaecoo J5 EV sports a boxy SUV look, giving it a tough and contemporary road presence. Even with camouflage, various styling elements of Jaecoo J5 EV are still visible. These include projector LED headlights, a closed-off front grille, and 18-inch alloy wheels. However, the dual-tone finish of these alloy wheels is still under wraps on this test mule. It also sports a panoramic sunroof, which would definitely be a positive factor if Jaecoo J5 EV is launched in India.

The Jaecoo J5 EV is also expected to be feature-rich on the inside. As per this report, Jaecoo J5 EV will get a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 50W wireless charging capabilities. It will also get powered front seats, 64-color ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an eight-speaker sound system. This indicates that Chery is looking to offer Jaecoo J5 EV as a feature-rich electric vehicle and not a basic EV.

Coming to the Indian market, CarWale suggests that the ICE model is unlikely to make its way to our market, as the potential partnership with JSW could be for new energy vehicles only, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EVs. The Jaecoo J5 is already listed on CarWale’s website as an upcoming model for our market, with an estimated price range of Rs. 18 lakh – Rs. 22 lakh and a tentative launch timing of November 2026. If that is the case, the Jaecoo J5 EV could be a new entrant in the EV-SUV market in our country
